Times have changed, but the basic principles remain the same. There are some people who desire power over others, and use government to force their will over people. The founders wanted the federal government strong enough to defend the country and hold it together, but not so strong to let a minority tyranize the majority, or let a majority tyranize a minority.
The Marxist income tax was a big mistake, it needs to be repealed. Many of the government agencies aren't specifically allowed under the constitution.
The real problem is that the constitution isn't being followed, not that it needs changing.

There has been a process in place for "updating " the Constitution for 200+ years. Amendments are added according to definites procedures.
The left believes in "updating" the Constitution whenever they run into something they disagree with, or something which makes it difficult to trample on the rights of the American people. The left wanted to make abortion constitutional so the leftists on the Supreme Court created the "right to privacy". This doesn't exist in the Constitution and never has. It was suddenly "found" in order to OK a need for the left.
Any idea of updating is scary as hell. It means trying to Mickey Mouse around the greatest document of government ever written in order to meet some self-serving purpose of people for whom our Constitution is an inconvenience. An inconvenient roadblock to their ability to impose their will on the rest of us.

The Constitution wasn't made for a different type of society--we are the same society. It was made in a time of different technologies and population density, but human nature remains the same.

And a wrong thought. If anything, we need to throw out 80% of the laws that have been passed since the ratification of the Constitution and go back to the principles outlined in that simple but elegant document.

No. Our forefathers framed it so that it would be general enough for it to be able to be interpreted for the changing times.
