I've heard that if you install Limewire on laptops it just gives you viruses and its not good....is this true? If it is, can't you just get rid of the viruses and clean up your computer? So basically what i'm asking is....can you have limewire on a laptop without seriously damaging it or wrecking it?

Also, if the answer to that question is no, what's another good free music downloading program I can use?

Thanks in advance.

There's no difference between installing Limewire on a laptop than on a desktop computer. That does not mean, though, that it is completely safe to have on your computer. Limewire itself won't give you viruses, but the stuff you download might. And sometimes it's not easy to get rid of viruses. You can use limewire, but you have to be saavy about what you're downloading.

Another (better) option is BitTorrent, but is a little more complicated to use.

EDIT, Additional Info:

Diamond: Save your propaganda. Think about all the people who engage in music sharing and DONT get sued. At any rate, if you're using Limewire, don't share, and you won't get in trouble.

Mr Cheezle: That's why I said it's a little more complicated to use. If you know how to use it though, it's much better than Limewire. And actually the specific program I use is Bit Comet. Try that one out, it's a little friendlier.

No, this is untrue. I have a laptop and I installed limewire the first day i got it and it has been running fine since. You will not get ANY viruses if you are safe and careful on limewire. Don't download anything that isnt related to your search (ie. howard stern prank phone call comes up when you search for beastie boys songs) dont download anything that doesnt show the artist name and title of the song. dont download anything less than 700kb (if you look at all the information about the file it will tell you) good luck and be careful and im sorry nicholas dude but I've tried BitTorrent and got nothing but anger and a headache.

First, today on the news a record company is suing a woman here in the states for downloading music and sharing it on Limewire. The record companies say she owes them around $3,000,000. If you don't want to come under suspicion the best bet is to not do it.

Some people do play around with Limewire and download virus-like programs.

Your best bet is to not use a file sharing program or website at all. There are a few that charge a minimum per month. The only name I can think of is emusic.com. They are growing but the choices are not as extensive as Limewire. Good luck.

no limewire is not what hurts your computer its what u download. you need to be careful. like a song is normally 3,000 kilobytes - 6,000 kilobytes. If it is less than 1,000 kilobytes then it is most likely a virus. I have had limewire for 2 years and as long as i am really careful about downloading then it will not harm your computer.
