My husband thinks the story behind the name Delilah (as in sampson & Delilah) does not paint a great picture. Does anyone care or is it just a silly name for a middle name?

Both names are lovely, however I agree with other posters that they just don't sound as lovely when paired.
If your husband is iffy about Delilah see how he feels about Lila (lie-luh.) It is a variation of the name Delilah that doesn't immediately bring to mind Sampson and Delilah. However, Leah Lila does not sound too great in combination either.

Leah and Delilah are both Biblical names, so how about.......

Leah Danielle
Leah Abigail
Leah Raquel

Elizabeth Delilah
Delilah Annalise
Delilah Shayne
Marlena Delilah

Lila Bethany
Lila Janelle
Shannon Lila

Best of luck!

I think it's a lovely name, and if you are (or rather, your husband is LOL) going to think of the name in reference to the Biblical story, it would seem more plausible to consider it from THAT character's point of view.

For example, when I was younger we had a pastor do a series of sermons on strong women of the Bible. Delilah was one of them. After all, if you were a Philistine, what she did would be seen as a courageous act of heroism, not anything terrible or, especially, evil. Think of it along the lines of patriotism. Also, the actual Hebrew meaning of Delilah is "delicate." It's not anything inherently negative, know what I mean?

That said, Leah Delilah would be a bit too repetitive a combo for my taste, especially since Lilah -- VERY similar to Leah in both appearance and sound -- is a common nickname for Delilah. In fact, Lia itself (with this spelling) even seems an obvious shortening.

So while I wouldn't personally pair the two, I definitely have nothing against Delilah. ;)

If you mean Leah, as in Lee, I think you need a different middle name, it seems like it doesn't flow well because of the difference in length.

If you mean Leah, as in Lea, I think you should spell it differently, as it is a little confusing.

I dont' think either way flows very well with the middle name you have picked out, but

Delilah reminds me of two things:
1) Yes, the song, "Hey there Delilah" while this band is a one hit wonder, and the song will be forgotten in a while, that's what sticks right now

2) One of the dogs from Homeward Bound.

I really like Delilah, it's cute. I can see it both on a little girl and an old woman.

I would say use Delilah as a first name, or find another first name to pair with it.

I think Delilah Leah (Lee) is nice

For the record, I didn't even think of Sampson and Delilah. I think as long as you don't pick a name like Vagina, it shouldn't matter what kind of associations people have with it.

Leah is a wonderful name, but definitely doesn't work in combination with Delilah.

Whenever I hear the name Delilah, I think of the Sampson story. That's just me.

If you're looking for another good Hebrew middle name, I suggest that would find one that isn't as phonetically similar, such as Leah Rebekah or something like that.

Good Luck.

I love the name Delilah, although along with Leah, it twists the tongue.

It's funny it made me think of 7th Heaven. Lucy and her husband named their two dogs Sampson and Delilah.

Hey, it's cute!

I like both names, together though, they sound funny, to me. I do not think Delilah is a bad name, I do think that most people will associate it with Delilah in the Bible and that wouldn't be a good thing. Think about what she would go through with that as a name.

It seems silly the way it comes off the tongue, like banana. I love the name Leah, though. How about Leah Rachael?
