No, they don't, but they probably should since the cops are the ones out there laying their lives on the line to protect them. Cops routinely make their rounds at restaurants, not for a hand out, but to make sure everything is OK. I see nothing wrong with the owner saying "Thanks for stopping by" with a burger or even just a cup of coffee on a bitter cold night. The cops will then return more often than on their regular rounds. Witness the Seacrest Diner on Long Island back in the 70's. A carefully planned hold up turned ugly and resulted in multiple rapes and murders. They knew it was an easy mark. The owner wasn't "cop friendly". Not even a cup of coffee on a cold night.

Would take anything for free? How about if you were the frozen food delivery guy, and the clerk gave you a coffee because you put the food order near the freezer? Did you ever offer the mailman a cool water or ice tea on a hot day? Does a real estate agent ever take a mortgage broker out to lunch when they are negotiating a big deal? If the store guy is trying to gets something from the cops (maybe ignore the gambling in the back room) It is evil, and the cops should turn it down. But free coffee and such are part of doing business. Loon wits get jealous of the cops, or think they are being "bribed" that is pure BS. Besides, only sleazy cops take anything other than coffee for free. they might get a 'discount', but they usually leave a big tip. So big that it is the same as full price.

Probably, but cops are not supposed to accept free anything.
However, some cops order food and leave without paying for it and when the owner or manager tries to collect payment-the cop reminds them that they might take a little longer to respond to an emergency at the establishment.
Some restaurants may have a contract with the city or county and state to be paid.

When I was a young kid, I worked at Taco Bell.
One time I REFUSED to give a cop a free meal, because I KNEW the cop was a bad cop.

He came in, slammed me on the ground and cuffed me for "talking back" to him.

I would say that in most SMALL towns, yes. I can't speak for everyone else.

only when somebody whose working there is running around with a cop and their both married. id say they have a contract with the city. just think of the food bill if they gave free food 3/4 times a day to them

I worked at McDonalds for two years, cops came through ALL the time and not once did anyone mention, nor did they mention, nor did I offer giving them a free meal. So no.

not all restaurants do that...some just offer 50% discount or whatever discount they give their employees. most places (not just food places) do that b/c if they have cops in their building then that's less problems they have to worry about .. example:like customers getting rowdy, robbery, etc.
