Understandable ? as I have "relatives" that feel it is ok for their 5 yr old to watch R rated graphic movies. I say no, I am their father not their friend. Though I am not sure that the rating system is accurate anymore, my kid won't be allowed to watch any r-rated movies until they are of age no matter what the content. You have to be careful what children watch that is graphic in any respect they will se how cruel the world is soon enough just let them be kids. I remember as a very young man I thought it would be cool to rent Faces of Death a five series my dad found it before we saw it (he has seen real horrors movies couldn't emulate), so he sat down with my friends and I and had us watch it asking us questions, made us feel uncomfortable but helped us realize we were not ready for that type of thing.

It really depends on what the R rating is for. If it is for language, then I know they hear and use more at school than they see in a movie. If it is for sexual content, I wouldn't take my child.

As for violence, it depends how it is portrayed, if a horror movie I wouldn't take her, but in an action movie I see it as different.

I did take her to see 8 Mile when it came out. Even though there was a sex scene in it, there was less nudity than I have seen on basic cable.

She loves Johnny Depp, but I wouldn't let her see The Libertine. I told her when she turned 18 she could make that decision.

Absolutely not. I wasn't allowed to go when I was a kid, and the movies are MUCH worse today. And the R-rating covers FAR to much area... shame that they don't use the NC-17 move often.

I will screen a movie to determine if it's okay for my girls... eg " The Matrix".

They are 17 & 13... thank God the boy still loves Nemo.

This is part of the reason
the world is screwed up.
Parents are afraid they
are not cool, if they don't
let thier kids do what ever
they want to do.

I went through this same thing
with my 24 year old son when
he was a teenager. And now
he is just terrible. So now I
am strict with my 15 year old.

No i only take my kids to an R-rated movie if its not that bad like the matrix for example it wasn't that bad not very violent i mean. But like the movie 300 is not for kids my kids won't be seeing that anytime soon. So no you shouldn't do it to look cool

I haven't had any kids yet, but I think it depends on the age of the child and the content of the movie.
