I have a Geforce 7950 GT it has always been finnicky but it still pumped out good frame rates in games like F.E.A.R.
I havn't been playing many games in a while and i just started playing F.E.A.R. again and lets say the frame rates arn't all that great :( In fact, they are dreadful no matter if AA and AF are on or off and its really annoying, why is it performing poorly should i get it repaired? I might replace it if i have to i heard the chipset it uses is kinda picky. I just want a consistent card :) Thinkin about downgrading to a 8600 GT XXX edition, i am not playing at ultra high res or anything but a 8800 GTS would be really nice if i can afford it come christmas time :) Am i doing something wrong? I usually like using stock drivers from nvidia (never new!) cause they seem to run smoother. oh and when dual monitors are enabled my boot time is dreadfully long.

they always perform WORSE like 30 fps worse when drivers are updated, this is true with any card i've EVER worked with. it worked fine with the stock drivers for a long time. even the BFG guy said use stock drivers

Well first off, if I am understanding that last part correctly and you are using the drivers that came with the card, UPDATE THE DRIVERS. They don't release driver updates because they are bored and have nothing to do, there is a reason behind it. Aside from that, it could be you simply have a bad card, if it doesn't perform better after the driver update, then you may consider getting a replacement.

Make sure the system RAM is not your bottleneck. Look for hard drive activity during game play. If it's really heavy, then you probably need more RAM. - Note that FEAR is one of the few that requires at least 1 Gig, so even 2 Gigs may be a problem if you have a lot of stuff running.

Other than that, I don't know, but maybe do try the newest driver?

You could try "Omega" drivers for Nvidia. Just google them for the card in question.
