First of all, Butter, sorry that your one and only experience with another girl did not work out. Perhaps you were not with the right person, who could have shown you what a beautiful experience this can be.
Anyway, coming back to the question. The real GLBT's are very clear about the fact that this isn't a choice. It is what you are born with. Period! There are no debates here about the so-called choice. It is about the how we used the ways and means to deal with this condition we are born with. Some of us choose to live in denials because we think that we can wish this away. Some of us live in closets because we are afraid of the battles we have to fight with the society at large if we come out. Then there are a lot of us who deal with it in a quiet and simple way by living our life as we are but not making a production of it by broadcasting it everywhere and making the so called normal folks uncomfortable. Then there are the ones who do just that. The section of GLBT who go out of their way to provoke. They can not wait for the World to know who they are. Even I, who is a lesbian, is often embarassed by these people.
Do I think that more people would try being gay, if they were given a choice? I think that perhaps this could happen. ALthough I believe intitially most people would give it a try for sexual reasons. To spice up their dull love life, so to speak. I doubt that this would be a good thing because a lot of normal people could actually get turned off by it.
Frankly, as much as I want our society to accept us as we are and sometimes i wish this process would quicken, I am still OK with the way things are progressing. Things are changing for us in the right direction. I mean, who would have thought ten years ago that there would actually be a tv show called, "The L word!" We are making progress. Keep the faith!

No one would choose to be hated.
But i guess if it were just a choice period then it would be more like experimenting with drugs people might be addicts, habitual users, one timers, or abstain completely.People would probably still look down on it like they do drug users
Kind of how it is now when you think about it minus the choice but I think it would be easy if it were just something you could turn on or off. Though I still dont know even if I could if I would switch to guys
Nice question

They would choose the pleasure of it perhaps. But the stuff that really comes along with it and what it really is all about is love not lust. Not many people would choose to be gay if it wasn't for the sex.

I'm no lesbian but I have experimented (I was curious) and to be honest with you it wasn't my thing, I need a man. Making out with a chick was no fun she has what I have it was like making out with myself.
