Have you ever received a W-2? Have you ever file your income taxes both state and federal? Do you get a check stub with your cash money pay? The fact that you get paid in cash is not illegal. It is quite costly for a business to have payroll or a third party that does payroll. It is also not illegal for your employer to offer health care. This is a perk. But if the answer to all the questions are no I would bet there is something strange going on.

You sure don't like write like someone who would be employed by an atty... Having a HARD time believing any of this. Be careful who you talk to about your concerns, too. The laws of defamation could see you working for the lawyer in question wayyyyyy longer than you might have intended.
If you're serious, however, Google the terms, 'law society bar association along with the name of your state/province,' which should yield the disciplinary/governing body of attys in your area. Click on the Consumer Information link and pose your question there. If this is all true, the Benchers (in charge of public complaints) will no doubt be pleased to hear about it.

That is completely illegal. Not only is he potentially putting himself in harms way, every employee he pays under the table is not paying taxes. If the IRS catches wind of this every employee will be hit will an estimated bill for all the back taxes they should have been paying. in case you have not notices the IRS are generally not overly generous and will most likely over estimate.

Maybe he doesn't like where the government puts his tax money and he's making a protest.
