I have never heard of an African American Pope. I am fairly certain no such has yet occured.

Also, I am fairly certain there never where any African Roman emperors either.

I believe these are trick questions and there are no answers.

You should tell your teacher: "It's actually very unlikely that any popes (or Roman Emperors) were black in the way Americans use the word. While several were from Africa, they were probably more like modern North Africans or Egyptians (which is to say, Arab.)"

Pope St. Victor - Elected in 189 AD.
Pope St. Militiades - Reigned as Pope from 311 - 314.
Pope St. Gelasius - Reigned from 492 -496.

These are probably the gentlemen he had in mind, though.
Throw in Caracalla and or Septimus Severus for your African-born Emperors, and it's all good.

Oh, and Cleopatra? Greek!

there were no black popes. All the poeps were european descent. there was a female pope though. she disguised as a man and was only found out when she gave birth

the same goes with roman emperors. blacks were sold off as slaves and not considered part of the ancestry of the roman people so it is impossible to have a black emperor

and america didn exist during the roman era lol how can there be african american when there is no such thing as americans back then lol

you'e science teacher is pulling you leg

When someone says African, we think of Black Africans but I think these Popes weren't black Africans. Anyways look for North African popes...

African Popes, not African American.

There have been three African popes:
• St. Victor I (189-199) http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15408a.htm
• St. Melchiades (311-314) http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/10318a.htm
• St. Gelasius (492-496) http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/06406a.htm

I think it's Pupienus and Balbinus

here have a look at this: it says
The swift collapse of the revolt in Africa did little to dampen the resolve of the senate, who named two of their own -- Pupienus and Balbinus -- as emperors.

i guess that means they're african?!

i found it on:
