For a lot of people, pretty fake.
Sure, some people do have it. HOWEVER, isn't bi-polar more along the lines of being human? Suddenly getting angry is human, suddenly wanting to kill yourself can also be pretty normal feelings, but some people let them get out of control. Suddenly being sad about things can also happen, its very human.
It seems that being Bi-Polar has become much more of an excuse to take pills and explain behavior.

I think being Bi-Polar is a real condition, but I think a lot of people USE it as an excuse to treat others like crap, which makes a lot of other people think its just a lame excuse. There are lots of people out there who are Bi-Polar and it's hard for them because they're trying to deal with it, and so are their families. People think depression is a lame excuse for being sad all the time and it's not. A lot of people suffering from these illnesses cannot help it. Sometimes it runs in families or a person's brain never properly develops the proper amount of serotonin. I say we judge the individual person, not the disorder.

It really depends on you you're talking about. A person can really be bi-polar, or someone can use it as a lame excuse. Max Bemis from the band Say Anything is bi-polar, good example.

It's not real to most people until they become the victim of someones breakdown. I was on the receiving end once. I was attacked by a bi-polar friend. Out of the blue, this generally nice guy began to fist fight with me. Banged me up pretty good too. Some people are really sick and need to be constantly medicated. This disorder is real.

A lame excuse for what? My mother is an unmedicated bipolar person and every day is like Hell for her. She does stuff that no normal person would ever do. She thinks everyone is out to get her and any little thing can set her off on a rampage. She doesn't think she is bipolar, and she goes off of her medication whenever she is not being forced by the law to be on it. This question is very ignorant.

I think that there are people who probably have a Bi-Polar disorder, but it seems like it's becoming trendy to have it! I think some people self-diagnose, and incorrectly come to the conclusion that they are Bi-Polar.

Welp, since I live it every day and it landed me in the psych ward....yeah I have to go with yes.
Is it an excuse? No. You still have to responsible for your actions and your treatment. Part of being bipolar is getting your **** together. I am high functioning because I am determined to be and aggressively treat it.

It's very real. I've had it for the last 8 years of my life. You think it's lame? HA! Try being bipolar, then you'd get it!

Of course it's real! My cousin has it so bad sometimes she wants to kill her mom so they had to put her in an institution as a last resort. Everyone who thinks it's "lame" really needs to read up on it and know that it affects families in a very real way.

Bipolar is a real disorder. Some time you feel like you can save the world and have the energy to do it all, and then sometimes feel normal, or come crashing down when you realize that you just can do it all. Meds don't always work right even when taking them as prescribed.
