The third person had basically tie right answer. The idea is it is not supposed to be easy to do. (Originally, in the comics, all she could do was turn invisible, and when she discovered that she could also make an invisible force field, she had to practice at it.)

Technically this is called a side-effect, or power limitation, like Green Lantern's power ring can't affect yellow or Superman can't see through lead with his x-ray vision. This is slightly different than Sue Storm has been show in the comics.

But the idea is she has to try so hard it almost gives her a migraine headache, so her body relieves the pressure by letting her nose bleed instead. People who actually suffer from noseblelds may have them partly due to emotional stress.

The character Maxwell Lord in DC comics had a power of suggestion (making people go along with his ideas) which at first it gave him nosebleeds to use, and then he got better with it. Eventually he went power mad and he was controlling Superman and they had to kill hijm before he forced the heroes to start killing people. You get the idea.

I'm not sure if they're just trying to show how difficult and stressful Sue's powers are to use, or if they are foreshadowing that she might go insane with her powers sometimes.

I vaguel seem to recall that there was some villain at one time with a power that came from a brain tumor and once the tumor was removed, the power went away. I think that may have been the atomic skull, but I'm not sure.

Anyhow, hope that tells you what you wanted to know.

I can't recall ever seeing Sue's nose bleed in the comics, but it does happen in the movies. It's to demonstrate the amount of strain it's placing on her body to generate a force field of that size; the strain is so great it's actually causing blood vessels to burst from the effort. It's basically just a plot device to emphasize her heroism; she's willing to tear up her insides to keep that force field up.

I am guessing you're talking about Sue Richards of the Fantastic Four? If so, her nose probably bleeds because making a force field is frickin hard.

I don't know and don't care the movie was a bomb. I literally fell asleep. The only decent thing was the silver surfer because of the speciel effects. Overall boring. Better rent it when it hits floor.

She exerts so much of her energy, this is her body's way of fighting back. It's like an athlete who runs so hard, they have to puke. It only happens, when the force field she is generating is massive. Peace!
