I have a 1988 Ford Ranger. I recently have done some work to my truck and removed some bolts. These bolts have years worth of dirt and rust on them (about 75% dirt 25% rust) is there any chemicals that I can soak these in to remove the dirt and rust. Please only recommend chemicals that I can buy at an auto store such as Advance Auto Parts or O'Reilly's Auto Parts.

chemicals wont do that good of a job,i use a brass wire brush mounted to a drill or a small air tool that will hold it,that does a lot better ,and its a lot faster also, then you can paint them before you put then back on,good luck.

You can use Berrymans but since it's an '88, I would just go to a good auto parts store and buy myself some new bolts. There semi rusted and the strength has most likely diminished. Get some new ones just to be safe.

Good auto parts stores (not Autozone, Advance, or O'Reilly) carry battery cleaner and battery protector in spray cans. Baking soda and water also work to neutralize the acid. The best situation is to clean the contacts mechanically with a wire brush or sand paper.

You could clean them with a parts washer, or simply clean them with a wire wheel........ that will remove rust and dirt without the chemicals.

You can use kerosene. Also, they make solvents tha you can buy at the auto parts store, but it is basically just carb cleaner.

Put em in a metal coffee can with enough gasoline to cover them. That'll do.
