My buddy is a single guy that wants to move to Dallas and start over, mainly start his business. He has no children. I keep telling him to do it and feels he is told old to get started.

What can I tell my good friend to encourage?

At 35 he feels old? Damn. Sounds like an early midlife crisis: he needs to take a trip. Pure and simple, rather than convince him to start a business right away, tell him to take a cruise or visit someplace far away like Prague, Morroco or South Africa. He needs to be as detached from his normal settings as possible, and several hours of flight will do that pretty quick.

Then he needs to immerse in the local whatever. Hate to call it that, but being away from everything normal, experiencing the unusual and coming back usually gives someone something new to hope for in life. If he feels old now its because he thinks there is nothing left to do, that there is no excitement left for him. By going to a place he can't have preconceptions about (trust me, it will all look a lot different then when its on TV once he is there), he will get an experience thats totally new.

Boom, new outlook on life. I don't know how many old people get a second breath that way.

35 is young! Tell him to pursue his goals, otherwise he may live to regret it.

I'm wondering if it's more than his age that's stopping him, because I can't understand why he would think 35 is old.

Single? 35? And no kids? He has his whole life ahead of him. Tell him to go out and live it!

Tell him to follow his passion...It's obviously been weighing on his mind for some time now. He needs encouragement and he's getting it from you. If he fails...he at least knows the answer...if he dies before he tries....it will be just one more failure.

When he is 45 he will be looking back on this moment thinking 'I should have done this 10 years ago, im too old now'

Regret what you have not done, not what you have done in life.
