In alot of ways I think that it has. A lot of the children don't have respect for their elders or themselves. I am 35 and I would never dream of speaking to my mother the way some of these children do nor would I show my behind in school or I knew that I was going to get it when I got home. The music from the 70's and 80's were about love abd respecting your women but now most of the songs degrade our women. I call anyone born before 1980 B.C (before Crack) and anyone born after that A.D (after the destruction). I believe that the crack epidemic help in the destruction of the African American community because a lot of the children today are either raising themselves or being raised by elderly grandparents who are unable to keep an eye on them because their health is failing due to the fact that their parents are on drugs. The only role model they have are those they see on t.v and most of them are not a positive role model. The people they see are rappers who think that the best way to make money is to exploit women, talk about selling drugs and shotting those who get in their way. They talk about all the material things that they have and the children believe that this is what they need in order to be accepted. Gone are the days of looking up to their fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other positive members of the community, now they look up to whomever has the nicest cars witht he fanciest rims. We need to take our children back because if the children are our future we are in dire distress.

He was a brilliant man with keen critical thinking skills who in his need for a purpose, a father figure, and an outlet for expression allowed himself to be willingly deceived by a corrupt man who willfully manipulated the racial tensions of the times and the lack of education of his own people for his own game. In the last year of his life, when Malcolm X took his own blinders off (and was murdered for doing so), I think he had the makings of an amazing leader. It's the great tragedy of his life that we will never know what could have been.
