The botched electrocution in Shawshank Redemption was pretty gruesome.

Well, it wasn't a horrible death, but Marlon Brando in "Last Tango in Paris" stuck with me for days. Right before he dies (he's chewing gum), he takes the gum out and puts it under the balcony railing... you really have to see the movie, and the end, to get the full effect. Just an amazing actor, and took what could have been a banal ending into something truly dramatic. Still the best death scene by an actor I have ever seen (and I've seen several thousand films).
Runner up would be near the ending of The Departed, when the elevator opens, and DiCaprio and 2 others get it (especially the last one, the other crooked cop). Just was not expecting that.

Excalibur~King Arthur and Mordred very slowly kill each other in battle in a scene that defies brief description
Duel in the Son~lovers Pearl and Lewt shoot each other then drag themselves over rocks and dirt to die together
War of the Roses~the bickering Roses end up on the chandelier, which crashes to the floor, where it looks as if they might make up before death~till she picks up his hand from her shoulder and pushes it away before she dies (Well, this is a very dark comedy.)
Romeo & Juliet (1968) This is the absolute best R&J double-death scene!
I agree about the first death in Jaws! Everyone kept saying, "Where is that girl? Did they really feed her to the shark?!" The actress/stuntperson is Susan Blacklinie, who spoofed her scene in "1941", another Stephen Spielberg movie.

Just about every death listed above is awesome, but I'll add a couple here:
Vito Corleone, dying alone in his garden in The Godfather
Borimir refusing to die, trying to save and protect the hobbits in Lord Of The Rings.
Mickey in Rocky III
Spock in Star Trek II:The Wrath Of Khan
James Bond's bride in On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Well mine isn't violent, but I cried like a baby after seeing this death. It was from the movie "The Rose". Everyone leaves her. She is a famous rockstar. She drinks whiskey, pops pills, and shoots up, and then goes to a concert and dies on stage. It was really sad, because they extended her dying and it was just painful to watch, especially since the movie is kind of based on Janis Joplin's life.
RIP Pearl :(

Actually the deaths of the Spartans in the original 300 Spartans it was very strong and heroic, made you truly feel you were there as where the new one just had to go graphic and ignorant, like the original better

Only seeing the title of your question, I was going to say Scarface. I see that is your choice as well. Pretty graphic and violent scene.

The Last Samurai
the last part where Katsumoto, the leader, died in the battle and before he died, he saw the Sakura blossoms which is beautiful and he told Tom Cruise that it was perfect.
Then he died and all the soldiers kneeled before him to honor his death.

When I first saw "Alien", the sight of the character of Ash getting his head literally knocked off by Yaphet Kotto scared the shiite out of me. Ash wasn't even human -- he was an android, but still, it was jarring.
