of course. And it is the preferable method ... I worked for a major US company who REQUIRED us to terminate only via telephone. We had a 24 hour waiting period to give us time to make sure we were making the right decision and then if we were going to terminate, we could only do so by telephone.

Yes it is. In the current violent era we live in it is probably the safest way to terminate employees that are not needed.
