how do the names of covalent compounds differ from the names of ionic compounds???

Well, the chemical names would clearly identify the atoms in the chemical compound. You have to remember the trend of the electronegativity of the elements, in order to make a judgement wether a compound is covalent or ionic. In fact, once you are familiar to the trend of the electronegativity of the elements, its like a piece of cake to tell wether a compound is covalent or ionic, on in between.
