www.kusc.org in Los Angeles is my first choice, but www.wdav.org in the Raleigh/ Durham area is also very good. Both are listener sponsored, commercial free 24/7 classical stations, with excellent programming.

Although not technically in the Los Angeles area, musicchoice.com gives you three channels: Classical Masterpieces, Opera, and Light Classical. You can listen to them on your computer.

If you have ITunes, they have some great classical stations like radio io classical all running with really good quality and almost no commercials.

If you listen through your computer you can stream music from the BBC's classical music station - just go to www.bbc.co.uk/radio3

I think your best first step would be to get a radio. Obtaining such a device is the single best step you can take to find radio stations of an endless variety of genres.
