there were 2 if you count an even record as not a winning record.

Playing on team with a .500 record was one winner:

1935 was Jay Berwanger who played for Chicago and the team had a 4-4-0 record

Have to go all the way back to 1956 when Paul Hornung did it for Notre Dame.

The team only won 2 games that season.

I can't remember the year, Paul Hornung of Notre Dame. He went on to a Hall of Fame career with the Packers.

I don't think so. Unlike the MLB MVP which is chosen by a Monkey drawing a baseball card (ie ARod with the last place rangers) If you're teams not doing that well, you can't be that valuable.
