mean (no. 1)= (56 + 103 + 97 + 214 + 505)/5
= 975/5
= 195

mean (no. 2) = (936 +241 + 317 + 452 + 703 + 641 + 826)/7
= 4116/7
= 588

So you can do it yourself next time, all it is is this:

Mean means average. And you find the average by adding up all the numbers, and then dividing it by the numbers in the equation.

Number 1: 56 + 103 + 97 + 214 + 505 = 975. 975 divided by 5 = 195
Answer: 195

Number 2: 936 + 241 + 317 + 452 + 703 + 641 + 826 = 4116. 4116 divided by 7 = 588
Answer: 588

mean = average of a certain amount of numbers

1) [56 + 103 + 97 + 214 + 505]/5
= 975/5
= 195

2)[936 + 241 + 317 + 452 + 703 + 641 + 826]/7
= 4116/7
= 588

By the way this math is not "stupid", because you can really use it in real life.

The mean is just the average. Add up the numbers in the group and divide by the count of numbers

Number 1: (56+103+97+214+505)/5

Simply add the numbers in a set together, then divide your result by the number of numbers. (i.e. you'd divide the first set by 5, since there are 5 entries or data).

The "mean" simply refers to the average.

You may come across the terms "median" and "mode."

Median refers to the middle number, if the numbers are arranged in ascending order. So if you have 1 1 2 7 9, the numbers are in order, so the median would be 2 since it's smack in the middle. If you had 1 1 2 4 7 9, both 2 and 4 are in the middle, so you take the average (the mean!) of those two: 3.

The mode is just the number that occurs most frequently in a string of numbers. With 1 1 2 7 9, the mode is 1 since it occurs twice. You can have more than one mode, or no mode at all.

The mean, median and mode are all called "Descriptive Statistics."
