you take the |-7| out of the absolute value bars and it is 7, so it's 7+13, which = 20

In words..the absolute value of negative seven plus the absolute value of thirteen. Look at the magnitude of the -7 and the 13. Make the numbers inside the brackets all positive and you have seven plus thirteen..the answer is 20. What absolute value means is that you don't care what the signs are inside the brackets..just pretend it's all positive numbers and remove the brackets. then treat it like any addition or subtraction problem.

l -7 l + l13l = 20
absoulte value is the distance from zero, so the number is always positive since distance can only be measured in positive numbers. (you cant take the beagtive distance of something). so what you do is 7+ 13= 20

The lines around the numbers just means how far away from 0 those numbers are...whether they're negative or not. So basically the negative doesn't mean jack here. So you just add them and ignore the negative. 7+13=20

All you have to do is add 7 to 13. If they are in the ''boxes'' like that it means you need to make them positive if they arent already.
So your answer would be 20
