Carried many a coffin in my time....two grandmothers, an aunt, an uncle, and one grandfather. Let me tell you...those solid oak coffins can be heavy. I consider it an honor that I got to do such a thing. Male or female...it makes no difference...it is all about respect for the loved one that passed away.

Look. Believe in your bible all you want... But that doesn't make it any less mythology. I am not saying that in an insulting way, simply that it is mythology as it is a set of believes brought forth from a series of information that cannot be proven. All religions are mythology. That doesn't make them any less real to the person who follows it... As for Lilith, she wanted equality in a time where women had none. In all truth, kid yourself all you can, but there is still no equality between men and women. In many environments, men have the upper hand. In others however, women do. Look at 'office attire' regulations in many office jobs. This may be a petty remark, but men have to permanently wear a shirt and tie, whereas women in every office job I've ever had, get away with anything considered 'professional'. Of course, professional in this day and age evidently covers strappy tops and the like. Which to me, is utter bullshit. Total equality would be everyone wearing shirt and ties, male or female. Or everyone wearing casual. Also, if women want equal rights so badly, open your own damned pickle jars :P. I said that to my wife to be once... It's always comical until the pain starts lol.

I don't know of any woman who has been asked to dig a grave or to carry a coffin. It's not a matter of women shying away from it - but of not being asked to do it.

What difference does it make anyway? Much as feminists would have us believe different - men and women are NOT created equal. Men cannot do some things women can do; and women cannot do some things men can do. Why does everyone want to do what everyone else does???

gender equality in the very sense of the word doesn't mean forcing women to do tasks that only men do just to prove that women are equal to men.. it means equality in terms of rights, choices and preferences free from society's discrimination/ or of being subjected to the reality of existing double standard.. women do not shy away from digging graves or carrying coffins.. it is just that women today are more empowered and educated and have better job opportunities than that of digging/carrying..

and who says that by just carrying coffins and digging graves we become equal to men???

I would just be creeped out about digging a grave or carrying a coffin. And I'm a weakling, so I wouldn't be able to carry a coffin, no matter how many people were also doing that.

Haven't put much effort into Your research on the matter, have You? Who do You think bury Their dead Husbands, Relatives, Friends or for that matter total strangers when there is no one else around? The pioneer Women in the American West did not wait for a male to come along to bury Their dead. Go to Africa and look at the graves of the men killed there and then ask Yourself, "I wonder Who buried Them?" My guess would be the Female survivors!
The problem with Your question is that You have localized it to Your own community or cultural environment. The world is a big place, full of customs, situations and circumstances about which You know nothing.

To be fair, most PEOPLE shy away from digging graves or carrying coffins.

On the other hand, I'm a woman who's dissected numerous human bodies and analyzed thousands of human skeletons. Not all women shy away from "disgusting" or "scary" jobs.

Bias against women in the construction and heavy equipment industry keep most women from digging graves.

Carrying coffins on the other hand is just tradition and traditions are always strongest at stress moments like funerals and weddings.

Gender equality is not about having the exact equal amount of people from each gender in every line of work. Part of gender equality is about allowing those who do choose to go into lines of work where their gender typically does not dominate. Equal opportunity.

Women don't usually carry coffins because it would to heavy for most of them. Some times I wonder why you guys ask such silly questions??? Are you guys jealous that we can do more than you can??? I feel sorry for you because until and unless you get the ability to bear and give birth to children You will always be behind us. Which is why men keep trying to keep women behind them, The one issue that makes the world go around you guys can't do. And women don't really need men for. We might need the sperm but not the man! You will never be able to have a child with out a woman you can't and don't have a place to incubate the child while it develops.
