In a solid, the molecules are in close contact with each harder and have little movement.

When the substance becomes a gas, the particles have much more energy and fly apart from each other.

well the molecules in a solid are very compact to each other but not touching each other. The molecules in a gas are not compact to each other but instead very spread apart.
Solids have the definite shape and volume while gas has a indefinite shape/volume.

i'm not exactly sure since i havent taken chemistry for over 2 years, but i believe that the molecules speed up
