I actually bought a 2005 hyundai accent 3 weeks ago that has 33,500 miles on it. I also had the option to choose a 2004 ford focus with 60,000 miles on. I am just wondering if I made the right choice

Hyundai has been earning really high marks lately. For the first time, they're being recommended by consumer agencies.

Warrantees don't always imply quality and reliability. It's more of a marketing move than an engineering thing. Also, the manufacturer has the upper hand when deciding how well to honor its warantees. They can always claim the problem was caused by abuse or negligence and not cover the repair, or have a clause in the fine print that excludes that particular type of repair (the particular type of repair you want to have done).

Ford is still struggling. They're not bad as far as American automakers go, but they're having trouble playing in the same league as the imports.

Toyota builds great products and stands behind them. They closely monitor quality throughout the manufacturing process, once cars are on the road, and after they have been on the road for many years. If they discover a problem, even 10 or more years after the manufacture date, they will not hesitate to issue a recall and cover all the repairs even though the warantees have long expired.

Between Hyundai and Ford, I'd have to say I'd buy a Hyundai. While Ford's trying to keep up and repair its financial damage, Hyundai has been making great strides and really proving themselves and people are starting to notice.

Hyundai quality is 10,000 times better than it was in the eighties -- (remember the Excel?) but still is not up to Honda, Toyota or even Ford standards. This doesn't mean you made the wrong choice. Keep your car well maintained and it should last well over 175K miles without major problems. You may get killed on resale value but if you drive it to the end what does it matter?

Cars made by Hyundai have a cheap feel to them.

Reliability-wise, neither is on par with Toyota, although neither is very bad.

If you told us what models you're looking at, you'd get some better answers.

Hyundais are very reliable cars. They have the best warranties and good gas mileage. They also are good quality.

Well, that is a matter of opinion. I am American, so I would buy and American made vehicle, so my answer is Ford.
