Did you see how he got on the assistant coach when they called a passing play on 3rd and short instead of a run? That tells me two things. He has no input on game decisions. He has not imparted his offensive philosophy very well to his assistant coaches either. It was sort of funny how the female sideline reporter was doing a JoePa imitation. It sounded like an old guy yelling at passing cars to "Slow Down! " That being said, he is an icon...he looks great....more power to him. It shouldn't be a surprise that he has a limited role at age 80.

Joe has been heard saying that he does all his "coaching" during the practices and if he has to "coach" on Saturday's then he didn't prepare his team well enough during the week. I believe he learned this mentality from reading Vince Lombardi books. As far as calling plays during the game - not sure. I do know all of his assistants have been with the team for 20+ years, too - so he probably puts a lot of faith in their coaching skills.

this occasion breaks my coronary heart. Papa Joe's profession will invariably be marked by means of this scandal, yet regrettably, quite a few the blame rests squarely on his shoulders. definite, he reported it, and NO, he did no longer do any of the abusing, yet neither did he save on with by means of to make specific the accountable events the two stopped abusing, or have been punished. He in basic terms did no longer do sufficient. i like to think of that maximum people might do something humanly achievable to get a newborn molester off their crew, and if that guy or woman grew to become into working a CHARITY for young little ones, that the entity may well be close down. i understand and love Paterno, and what he has accomplished at chuffed Valley as much as thousands and thousands of alternative followers, yet he in basic terms did no longer do sufficient. i in basic terms won't be in a position to have faith that he allowed that guy to maintain getting away along with his offenses by means of no longer making specific he grew to become into arrested. the sole proper ingredient for Paterno to do is to resign and pass away.

I think both he and Bowden are more like figureheads, but they still have the final say in everything. They don't call plays most of the time, but if they don't like what's going on, they'll take over. There's no doubt in the locker room who's in charge.

More of a fossil, actually. And his team has shown it the past two weeks.
Let's see if he can lose to a bad Iowa team for the sixth time in a row.
