This is something I talk about at work frequently. I agree with you 100%. Our government is not taking care of us and it's not a one party problem.
The best thing all of us can do is to get involved. We can start by prioritizing what issues are most important to us and then take all the time necessary to research how each elected official voted on these issues. Document this information and share it with everyone you know.
When it is time to vote, all of us must go to the polls and vote against those who do not represent our best interest ... regardless of what party they belong to. For this to be effective there has to be a grass roots movement that gains momentum and demonstrates to those holding office that we aren't going to take it any longer.
I think we would be better served by electing the less experienced people who are committed to carring out the wishes of the electorate than by those who are caught up in a political system that teaches to hate, distrust, and trash anyone and everyone who does not agree with their point of view or who do not belong to the "right party".
Another thing that may be effective is to vote against every incumbant that holds office. If they won't get along with each other and refuse to consider real compromise then we don't need them.
There. I got that off my chest and I feel much better. Thank you for your question. I can't wait to read the responses.

Education is the key. Using Ted Kennedy because he's so easy (figuratively as well as literally), he was "involved" in a motor vehicle "accident" that claimed his date's life. Was never held accountable. Still, people keep voting him back into office!
Another answer could easily be to put a cap on the pay scale of our elected officials. Teddy never needed the money, yet there he is, soaking us for all we're worth. Any idea what his paygrade/paycheck looks like? And what about the average mean income of those he's supposed to represent? Should he get more than the average joe?

Huh?!? What do you intend?!? State governments will end the country's corruption?!? as though corruption only exists indoors the federal government? If states had greater effective ability than they at contemporary do, then states will regulate corruption indoors the federal government? What you suggested makes truthfully no journey. William H. Taft as at as quickly as as suggested so you might no longer purely write so as which you would be understand, you're waiting to place in writing so as which you is only no longer waiting to be misunderstood. you're waiting to furnish it a attempt.

That has been asked for centuries. The best way is to prevent people from becoming career politicians. After 1 or 2 terms, vote in fresh ideas with empty pockets.

Public funding of presidential elections would work wonders. Currently the race to the White House is won by the person that can raise the most money.
Force networks give allotted public airways time to candidates.
Ban paid lobbying of the nation's representatives.
Make it easier for a third party to get on the ballots.

Campaign finance reform: if you strip corporations of their ability to buy off our politicians with soft money contributions, then you also castrate their ability to influence the laws we pass in this country.
