I want to move out to LA after I go to college to pursue Acting but I was wondering whether or not if majoring in Theatre arts be a smart idea? I do have the desire to want to Act and hope that I would be able to make it in this business but then again, a lot of people don't make it. So would majoring in theatre arts give me an edge over a lot of people trying to make it or would I just be waisting a load of money? should I just simply take acting classes and major in something else?

I'm the ex college prof who thinks you shouldn't go to college at all if you want to be an actor. Theatre Arts majors do not teach you how to be an actor. Where do you live? You can get started as an actor in lots of places besides LA. Read my profile and write me at my aol address for more info.

Getting a college degree is always a VERY wise choice. But pursuing a professional acting career requires being near where the paying acting jobs exist. You have to make that choice for yourself. Plus going to awesome acting classes like Cliff Osmond's classes (my teacher lol) is way more valuable to an aspiring professional actor than a college degree could ever be. My friends Eric Stoltz and Anthony Edwards BOTH dropped out of USC to pursue professional acting. They went to acting classes with the late Peggy Fuery and became super-successful professional actors. So just weigh out your priorities and stick with your decision.

How funny! I used to have the exact same plans. To answer your question... No I dont think you should major in Theatre Arts. Instead you should:

1. Consider minoring in theatre and majoring in something that you can fall back on if it doesn't work out

2. You can declare a double major with only one of them in Theatre arts

For example: Naomi Judd { the country singer } has always kept her nursing license in case the singing gets old.

********ALWAYS KEEP A DAY JOB!!!!************
