The US was doing quite well at the time econonically and The Vast majority of the population was wanting to stay Neutral. Big Business was booming and making huge profits off of the War In Europe-.- IT WAS THEIR WAR!!!! The Role of the Submarine was the German U Boats sinking of the LUSITANIA with the loss of American lives. Still THE US wanted to stay Neutral and make money off of THEIR WAR. Other ships had been sunk in American waters as well!!! Still this country wanted to help with food -clothes- Ammunition and such with the Lend Lease Program but finally we had to send General Black Jack Pershing and the AEF "American Expiditionary Force" OVER THERE--OVER THERE-SEND THE WORD SEND THE WORD OVER THERE-THAT THE YANKS ARE COMING THE YANKS ARE COMING....... TO HELP END THEIR WAR.

When World War I erupted in Europe in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson urged a policy of strict American neutrality.
Germany's declaration of unrestricted submarine warfare against all ships bound for Allied ports undermined that position.
When Congress declared war on Germany in 1917, the American army was a force of only 200,000 soldiers.
Millions of men had to be drafted, trained, and shipped across the submarine-infested Atlantic.
A full year passed before the U.S. Army was ready to make a significant contribution to the war effort.
