I think we are suppose to find the LCM of the denominators and multiply them by it.

There are two possible ways of interpreting your question:

1) The equation I think you probably mean is
(1/2) b + 4 = (1/8) b + 88
Collect the b terms on the left and the constants on the right:
(1/2) b - (1/8) b = 88 - 4
<=> (3/8) b = 84
<=> b = (8/3) (84) = 224.

If you don't like fractions, you can multiply through by 8 to start off with:
4b + 32 = b + 704
<=> 4b - b = 704 - 32
<=> 3b = 672
<=> b = 224.

2) Another possible interpretation of your question is
1 / (2b) + 4 = 1 / (8b) + 88
In this case, multiply through by 8b:
4 + 32b = 1 + 704b
<=> 672b = 3
<=> b = 1/224.

Get all of the variables on one side of the equation. So subtract 1/8b from the right and the left sides, than the equation should be 3/8b+4=88. Than solve as usual.

simple. You have to get the variable on the left and the other number on the right. So subtract 4 from 4 (it cancels out) and from 88, leaving you with 1/2b = 1/8b + 84.

now subtract 1/8 from 1/8 (cancels out again) and subtract it from 1/2. leaving you with -3/8 = 84
now divide -3/8 into 84.

you will desire to isolate the variable. a million. combine like words. 5y - 2y = 3y + 2 => 3y = 3y + 2 2. Subtract the variable from the side with the style(I forgot the actual teerms for doing this). 3y = 3y + 2 -3y -3y => 0 = 2 So this difficulty has no actual strategies. you will desire to isolate the variable. a million. combine like words. 5x + 2 = 2x - 10 => 5x + 2 = 2x - 10 2. Subtract the variable from the side with the lone style(I forgot the actual teerms for doing this). If lone numbers are on the two sides, subtract one variable from the two sides and subtract one lone style from the two sides. 5x + 2 = 2x - 10 -2x -2x => 3x + 2 = -10 -2 -2 => 3x = -12 resolve. 3x = -12 ---- ----- 3 3 x = -4
