You have 6s + 9s --> this is simply 15s.

Now your equation is:
15s = 18

Now divide both sides by 15:
15s ÷ 15 = 18 ÷ 15

On the left side you have just s because 15 cancels out.
s = 18 / 15

Now reduce the fraction:
s = 6 / 5

If you like, turn the improper fraction into a mixed fraction or a decimal:
s = 1 1/5
or
s = 1.2

To double check, put your value for s back into the equation and make sure it balances:
6s + 9s = 18
6(6/5) + 9(6/5) =? 18
36/5 + 54/5 =? 18
90/5 =? 18
18 = 18 check

So your answer of s = 6/5 is correct

This is what I think.
6s+9s=18
6-6s+9s-6s=18
3s=18
3s/3=18/3 = 6

s(6+9)=18
s*15=18
s*15/15=18/15
s=18/15
=6/5

6s+9s=18
15s=18
s=1 1/5

s is a "variable"
When you have a certain number of a given variable plus another number of the same variable, you just add the numbers.
Then you just divide out the certain number.
Then you reduce the resulting fraction.
