Having children drastically changes your financial status in many cases. But it also changes your life in very positive ways. When you are old or very ill and in grave health, you don't worry about the vacations you didn't take, or the cars you didn't buy. You just think about your family. Nothing you do in life gives more fulfillment than having a family. And nothing costs as much in terms of finances, work, energy, and heart issues. And I really believe at the end of life, every sleepless night rocking a baby is worth it, every skinned knee kiss is worth it, every book read, every toy worked on is worth it. Value comes in more than money.

Your kids only "bleed you dry" if you let them! It also depends on the individual sprog because our eldest daughter, at 24 and left home, still phones and asks "I know you'll probably not be able to but can you lend me the money to.....tax the car/insure the car/have a night out/pay the house insurance/pay for the dog to go to the vets/stuff for the kids" etc., etc., the only time now that we find it hard to say "no" is if it's something for one or both of our Grandsons, but over the years we've learnt to say "no". On the otherhand, our still at home 17 year old hates us paying for anything and up until recently had a part-time job as well as going to school. She's now at college and she had to leave her job. We now buy everything she needs, and sometimes wants, but she hates asking. Children are a blessing and despite the 24 year old asking a lot for money we wouldn't be without either one of them!! To some people your comment is harsh but we can see both sides and, in fairness to you, this is your personal opinion. and should be accepted as such. We agree that kids do but do you agree that some don't?

Of course they do, if we have them then we must accept that, but when you get older it can turn right round, and you can get the best in return. the love you get is priceless, grandchildren are the joy of tomorrow. I have always been poor because I hung on to my kids and fostered as well. It was worth it!

No it's not harsh! It's harsh reality. My household brings in 6 figures and we can't afford kids. We know better. They will bleed you dry!
Get a pet- they don't need cars, braces, or college!

i agree to the point that some people simply can't afford to have kids but they do have. that why some of them sit on welfare system.
