Certainly not a dumb question my friend... it's a really good one because it makes you stop, think and appreciate the things in life that we sometimes take for granted, it's good to focus on these things...look what comes out of these sort of questions, people are remembering and reminiscing on the lovely things in their life that remembering smells can conjure up....so I will star your question...... my most memorable ones are the smell of Cuticura talc my mother always used, bless her, and again the talc on babys, Johnsons...couldn't you just want to kiss and kiss and kiss a baby smelling of that, and like everyone else, fresh air dried linnen....Mmmm
This has brightened my day, thank you, I was feeling very down, but now I just sit here thinking of all the wonderful memmories that some smells are associated with

One of the saddest things I ever saw was years ago driving a charter bus. I picked up at a home for the elderly. This lovely older woman got on and sat directly across from me. She was alert but talked to no one and no one talked to her. Seems her family dropped her off and never visited. She only spoke Italian and no one else did. She must have been tremendously lonely. I suggest you find a home where you can volunteer. You should be able to meet a lot of older people that would be glad to have you for a friend. Look around in your neighborhood and see if there is an older person that lives alone. Drop by with a plate of cookies and say hello. There are tons of lonely people of all ages. I'm older now but when I was younger I always had older folks around me. There were always great stories and lots of laughs. I have an older friend now and we get together for a meal and a movie once a week or so. She's traveled all over the world and is just so interesting.

My favorite smell in all the world is the smell after a really severe electrical storm. The air is so fresh and clean and fully ionized. It's just wonderful.
Of course, living in Southern California, it's a total rarity. Don't think I've had that smell since Indiana, 20 years ago. Time for a road trip next spring. Think I'll start planning now!

My Grandma died in 2001. I have a towel that I put in a zip lock bag. It still smells like her. I know this is strange. I don't open it very often because I know the smell will go away. It is a comforting smell. I don't mean this in an ugly way.. You know.. when you hug someone... everyone has a different smell. I hope you understand what I mean.
I also love the smell when it rains.

No interesting. I love the smell of vanilla. I love Orange and citrus smells in candles and perfumes. And yes, clean lovely smelling linen, hung outside to try is lovely. I like Lavender too. but the way. Spiders and bugs hate Lavender, so if you are having a problem. Roll up some cotton and put some Lavender oil on and put them in cupboard corners, and boxes. add a few drop to your lined softener too. and to water if you are mopping the bathroom or cleaning bench tops.

The fresh smell..after a rain.
Morning glories
The smell of dirt that is being moved around.
The smell fresh cut grass.
The smell inside a bakery
The fragrance that comes off an orange grove.
These to name a few. No your question is not dumb.

The smell of Tide on my bedsheets. Heck, I can't name just one smell. The air while it's raining, a baby after it's bath, honeysuckle, old books that haven't been opened in a while, the smell of a new car, fresh cut hay, gingerbread baking, or cinnamon rolls, witchhazel after getting a haircut and a rose, or any flower for matter. Top quality pipe tobacco, and fresh plowed ground. I could go on and on

First of all--there is no such thing as a dumb question.
Secondly, I have to agree with every answer you have received, so far. I remember when we hung clothes on the line outside and I loved the smell of freshly dried sheets hung in the sun. Bleach was hardly ever necessary.

Gardenia's, this is my favorite smell. I have a small Gardinia bush in my backyard and love to cut off some of the blossoms and bring them into the house so that I can get the smell inside.

Not dumb to me. I love that scent too. It makes me feel things are clean.
I have had several mishaps using bleach. I have two pair of pants with bleach marks on them. LOL
I really miss the smell of the ocean more than anything. I get homesick thinking about it. I will never be able to return because my family is gone from there now. poor me.
