If sin and religion had nothing to do with it there would BE no marriage period. There would be no need.

I think so. Because people would tolerate it more. Sin and religion is what causes people like Larry Craig to seek companionship by going into airport restrooms and then through guilt he bashes out. But I think in some cases like this and a close friend of mine who is gay but then goes to church and prays for forgiveness only to go out again and look for male companionship. This is what I call the shame/thrill taboo which means that if he didn't feel so ashamed he wouldn't get such a thrill. But I am not a shrink or nothing its just my pet theory but now I wonder if anyone else notices this behavior in themselves or others. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Right now he is living with his brother and he starts going on and on about Angelina Jolie so his brother would start thinking he is straight. Before he was saying the same things about guys. I don't care either way but its stupid and annoying. And if your gay and your in the closet why bash the gays that are out? It just makes it harder and you look stupid when you get caught cruising in some seedy place and then people think all gays are sleezy. As well as perpetuating the whole sin thing. Straight people don't meet in bathrooms and such places as gay men. At least not near as much. Maybe if it wasn't such a taboo then men can meet other men and have something more real. Which is what we all want.

I believe that civil unions should be legalized rather than force organized religion to perform ceremonies that they either dis-agree with or disavow altogether. I am straight, republican and christian. I strongly disagree with any any attempt by our government or any other to legislate what the major organized religions are allowed to recognize or discard. A state sanctioned civil union legally binds two people in a union without the religious connotation. I believe this is the right approach to answer some of the problems many of these couples face. Its not fair for two committed people to spend a lifetime together and not have the ability to such things as some form of fair "divorce" , or any type of decision making authority for their partner. Especially if it pertains to serious medical or life ending decisions.

Gay/Lesbian marriage should be legal and the only reason it's not is because somewhere along the lines the people who took power in this country decided that this whole "separation of church and state" clause wasn't particularly important. Now, really it's about the fact that it's not something people are comfortable with so they try to pawn it off that god says its wrong. I've never really seen any direct quotes from the Bible (not that I give that book any value) that gay is wrong. Sin and religion SHOULD have nothing to do with it. Do your own thing. Conservatives should quit worrying about others' personal preferences.

sorry, i didnt read the whole details but i also strait/heterosexual and from a legal standpoint, because church and state is supposed to be separate, and as far as i know, i dont think that there is anything that gives reason that its not allowed in the constitution. plus, if they just legalize it, then politicians can deal with better issues, like the middle east. basically, they dont have any real excuse to not let gays/lesbians get married i think that they should allow it. i dont necesarily think that homosexuality is right, but the law has no good reason to ban it, but legally, i think that they have no choice but to give them that right. also--they will be together if they love each other regaurdless if they r married, so if there is a ring involved, its not really gona make it any worse. plus, its not our plce to judge people.

If that was the case I don't think many people would even have a problem with it. It would probably be more accepted or at least not as discriminated against if it wasn't considered a sin to some. Personally, it doesn't bother me who people date/marry. Everyone deserves to be happy.

honestly, until 2003, i've never even known that people were so for "gay marriage". at first i thought it was a joke, i thought it was one of the requirements(you have to be old enough, you have to be man/woman) i've been raised to know man and woman are the ones to get married. so its no question to me that gay marriage should not be legal.
but if[when] it becomes legal. it wouldn't really care. there's so many problems in this world that i've become neutral. so if a dude wants to marry another dude, I'm nOT SToPPiN YA. live YOUR life and leave mine the heLL alone. ok im done now.

Everytime there is a male shortage from war. More women live together and that doesn't seem to cause to big of a problem. Do you have to say your a lesbian? Does the world have to know what you do behind close doors?
With low wages and high rent more people are doing that and I would say that is so we can survive and leave it at that.
Why do gay people have to have it announced to the world?
A married man doesn't go around saying I am having sex with my wife. and we have tried oral sex what do you think of that? I mean keep it to your self, the world doesn't want to know what you do in your bedroom.

if I'm honest I'd have to say I'm slightly homophobic but I'm workin on it,but if i was to have children in the future, two things i would be sure about is (1) no religion at all until theyre either 18 or mature enough to make their own minds up, no brainwashing and (2) racism, sexism, homophobia would not be tolerated in any shape or form.if the little bastards disobeyed me they'd get a slap. i dont have a problem with that!

I'm agnostic Atheist so I follow no religion(s) BUT for the sake of being reasonable I do think you should understand that people's religious beliefs can be synonymous/hand-in-hand with their personal beliefs....ESPECIALLY on gay/bi people......and DEFINITELY when it comes to them and marriage.
The main question is fine but the 2nd is rhetorical....so is the 3rd.
Now for the last question which is in actual reference to the main question......I think it should be legal..... gay/lesbian marriage shouldn't even be called that.....it should just be called marriage.
Let them be as happy or as unhappy as straight people in "holy" matrimony if they want to.....f-ck it.

Most likely. Hopefully that will change if we get a Democratic President.
I am Christian, but if *some* Christains didn't rant about every little thing being wrong and immoral then I would be out to a lot more people.
