Its said that just before you die , your whole life flashes before you. If so, how does one know we are not seeing it now ?

The reason this is true is because our whole life experiences are like in file folders in our subconscious mind. This is our soul or spirit that lives on after we die. People are judged by this as it is rerun before them in the future life. Our spirit lives on and as such has been experienced by people in after life near death experiences.

Maybe if you know that you are going to die that is, it may trigger a fear or something that brings back all your life in a flash.
But sometimes when someone almost dies it is not something the person knows is going to happen to them so a near death experience is quite quick and unexpected, no time for flashes.
From that point of view, which I have experienced, there was nothing but darkness, no memories or thoughts what so ever, just quite disturbing nothingness. Maybe it has something to do with how close you are to death or how long you are in a state of near death as to your experience.
It is a very personal thing but I would guess adrenaline caused by shock may be the trigger in seeing your life flash before your eyes whether it is near death or not.
I don't understand the second part of your question. Seeing it now...I could only guess you mean aren't we seeing it now because death is inevitable.

Well there was one time when i was close to death but i didnt see my life flash before my eyes, but! now that i think about it,
every day a little bit of my life flashes before my eyes... so hhmmm you bring up an interesting topic..
my friend was almost in a car accident and she said "I kid you not my life flashed before my eyes im not even joking dude!"
now I don't know if everyone has their life flash before there eyes but I bet it happens about 70% of the time.

im not so sure that it would be so much your life flashing in front of your eyes like a movie, but perhaps more the realisation that this is the end of your life now and the overwhelming feelings that would come with that, like missing your family, friends and the things you wanted to acheive.
Just a thought, it's not something I have experienced or would ever want to.

Do you see all your life passing you by in your head like a movie at the moment?
At the moment, you might actively think about bits of it and remember things maybe intentionally and triggered by something, but in the theory you mention that our life flashes before our eyes before we die, it reels off automatically, and not just parts but like a summary.

I know because it happened to me once. I nearly drowned. My entire life flashed in front of me. I was 10 or 11 years old.
Obviously I survived. It was an experience I hope not to repeat for a long, long time.
I know I'm not seeing it now because I saw it then and know what it's like.

yes my life flashed before my eyes once and it was a verry interesting experience , it happened so fast and in detail , clear images , when i say " my whole life " I don't exagerate .
