I'd like to add to what sam hill said. I wonder if your metal roof is bonded to the electric service. If it is not, and a sharp edge cuts into one of your lights wires, the roof could become energized to 120 volts. Touching it while standing on an aluminum ladder could kill you. Or with right conditions, the voltage could start a fire. Just something to think about.

I like Dons suggestion, but have a thought. Are TIN roofs still manufactured? Certainly galvanized or otherwise Steel are.

In any case that wasn't my two cents...This is.

Tape or glue those magnets; much like the round ones on refrigerator deco stuff; found at craft or hardware stores...to the wiring, near each bulb.

To avoid Walking on the roof; use a broom handle; an extension pole much like Painters use; etc.; and if you have a specific design in mind you should be able to manuever the lights into place.

Just another opinion.

Just use small magnets. Be careful as steel roofs can be damaged by walking them improperly. Stay off of the "highs", and walk on the screws in the "lows". Never walk on it if it is wet, as it will be very slippery.
