Which of the following is the major organic product obtained from the reaction shown in the link?

I think it is b) but what is the two on top of the structure for? Someone else says it is d) but what happens to the CH3 then?

The answer is B. The 2 must be a typo

The answer is indeed b), p-nitrotoluene. To be absolutely correct, there should be some o-nitrotoluene in the product.

The 2 you see near the structure is left over from someone's photocopying these structures from another source, where something was labeled as "2."
