sometimes i feel like the few, and the proud.

ya know, it's a shame not one republican wants to lend out a hand to immigrants.

Have you read the citizenship requirement test? it's so hard!!

How about this: Those who are here "illegally" who havent broken the law, can stay, just pass the citizenship test and know a decent amount of English, if they want to drive. And we secure the border, with a Hi-tech fence! And lower immigration regulations and waiting time to be a citizen.

All youd need is a photo i.d., a background check to be elligible for citizenship.

Are you really as dumb as you sound? Illegal is illegal. They are not immigrants, they are illegal aliens. When will you get it right.

How about this: If an employer needs the laborers, they hire them at a decent wage and make themselves liable for the other expenses of keeping them here (Medical, education, etc.) Any employer who violates that rule gets arrested and faces 30-60 days in federal lockup and $10,000 fine per illegal alien. They also get their pictures published in every media source I can find (print, Internet, television) since the point of this is to stop Illegal immigration at the source. No employer wants to be see in a perp walk in handcuffs. I figure if the public sees CEO and company officials arrested like this, then the illegal alien trade will dry up over night.

The alien goes through a full background check and anything bigger than a traffic ticket is an automatic disqualification from future citizenship. They pay fines and back taxes from their wages pass the citizen test and if they need to, they go home and wait for the results. Again fighting this is an automatic Disqualification from future citizenship

The US government withholds all funding to Central America until they show that they are making progress in making their citizens want to stay in THEIR OWN COUNTRY!

Rest assured, if I ever become President, this is on my 100 day agenda.

The biggest problem with illegal immigration is that it is out of control. When a person enters this country illegally he or she has broken the law. He or she remains in this country without any management by anyone, whereas legal immigrants or visitors must be kept track of and must fulfil a number of requirements to stay.

I have no personal quarrel with most of the illegal immigrants I have met. They are usually nice people who just want a better life. But there is a proper way to do this.

Sadly, some illegal immigrants have been serial criminals. At the present we have no way to distinguish them from those who aren't criminals until they commit their crimes.

I would favor making immigration an easier process for those people who can and want to become citizens.

I am a conservative, but I don't subscribe to most of "the Sky is Falling" views some hold about illegal immigration. By the way, all four of my grandparents were immigrants who became U.S. citizens.

You just contradicted yourself. If they are here illegally (no quotes, they really are illegal), they have already broken our laws and continue to do so. Are they as big of a threat? No. But the fact stills remains that they have contempt for America by continuing to do break our laws. They have forfeited the privilege of becoming a citizen. Can they go back and do it properly? Probably so in many cases.

People I know who have become citizens took 10 years for the process. I agree, we need to cut down that time.

You want to be a CITIZEN of the United States and you are from another country? Then ENTER THIS COUNTRY LEGALLY, with the proper documentation, with the proper sponsorship and with the knowledge and conviction that you will LEARN AND USE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE and adopt it as your own just like EVERY SINGLE IMMIGRANT has done who came here legally from other countries.... People are NOT against immigrants---ONLY those who snuck into this country without proper documentation, without jobs and without a visable means of support except for the meanial jobs they can get with NO GREEN CARD.... Other immigrants came to this country, learned ENGLISH, adapted the American way as their own and BECAME AMERICANS---these Mexican illegals don't give a CRAP about America--only what it can GIVE THEM....

Why does everyone insult the person? Insult the mistake and try to help, that is what Yahoo!A is for...

First of all not all conservatives are republican, and not all liberals are democrats. I think the main reason why immigration is illegalized is so a country can keep control of it taxes and funds. Most of illegal immigrants use our roads, schools, water, public services, and etc. All of which is paid for by taxes which they don't pay. That's technically stealing from the American people.

I looked at a sample test at usgovinfo.about.com and it doesn't seem all too hard. After grade-school and your 1 year of US History or Government in high-school any American person should be able to pass that test. Unless that person is an extreme slacker, or forgets things easily.

In order to particpate in America's government one must understand it. I would think that's what the test is for.

If they did that in the first place, then maybe people would not be so pissed off about them just sneaking over here.
American citizens already pay enough taxes as it is, if they want to live in America, they need to pay taxes too just like the rest of us.
