I have had 4 full months of challenges. It isn't getting any better, and I fear I may be in a rut. Where may I go for help? I want to somehow recover from the gloom. I don't want medication, just counseling, but I have no insurance.

There are some online groups you could join, those always help - all depends on what issues you're dealing with - make sure you find a group that has experienced similar things.

Another option is support groups within your community. Sometimes churches have them available, sometimes bookstores, places where people gather naturally. You might also find some counseling students that would do pro bono work for experience......

Lastly, I know this is pretty generic, but yoga classes do help - they are not just for physical wellness, but they help you get grounded, centered and calm.

Realize that counselors are just people who want to make a living like the rest of us. They don't have pristine lives.

I've never really been happy for more than a few weeks, but I'm either too stubborn for counseling (concluding that it isn't my fault), or that I can help myself. Maybe this will work.

Counselors are part of the same public that causes us our woes, when and where they occur.

Humans have evolved to solve problems.

Seriously, if we don't have problems to solve, we start making them up like Paris Hilton or Britney Spears.

Gloom comes from immersing yourself in the sense that your problems are unsolvable.

Happiness comes from the sense you are solving your problems.

Stop whining. Start solving.

Begin the day by thinking about what you are grateful for.
Ask yourself what every problem is teaching you.

JTFR 20 minutes a day of exercise is just as effective as ANY anti depressant. (And you appearance improves)

Realize that each decision you make no matter how small affects the rest of your life. Have you seen "The Secret"?
Although it is over simplified it should send you on a quest to realize that within limits and providential guidance you make your own circumstances and build your own future.
Go on youtube and listen to some video on this.

How about your church or spiritual leader? If you don't have one most local churches offer counseling even if you are not a member. You can also try the YMCA or the mental health association in your state. Good luck.
