You can definitely condition yourself to have a different frame of mind. sometimes it might be that circumstances re-shape your thinking patterns or maybe you reach "enlightenment" about something, or if you find a level of empathy with your given "subject" will lead to a more complete understanding. it's called "conditioning" for a reason :). if you've taken any philosophy courses at all, I'm sure you would know about Pavlov and his conditioning a few dogs with food (if they did what he asked theyd get the food, if they didnt do what they asked they got reprimanded...). For a different frame of mind, its about re-programming yourself to reach your desired frame of mind, maybe with positive reinforcement.
other times, it might be a good exercise to do (for example) drawing exercises and alternating what hand you draw with. that will exercise each side of your brain, and different traits will come out, and show you a new perspective.
and still, sometimes, its about seeing the glass as half empty or half full...its all in how you CHOOSE to see things. (or as my father-in-law says, "what glass?" :))
...and thats all i gotta say about that:)
what do you think?

I grew up not really liking or loving myself. When I made a decision to work on that, that it was the main thing I wanted to change and that I was willing to put a lot of time, energy and as much money as needed (I learn thru reading mostly-so I bought a lot of books.)

Anyway, it took years and sometimes even now I go in the wrong direction, but mainly I treat myself gently, with support.
I've stopped pushing myself so hard and accept myself, even if I goof up. I just say I'll try to do better or well, I learned from that but without banging my head against the wall. Also, and mainly I've let go expecting myself to be perfect.

There is a tee shirt out there that I'd like to have. It says, "I
embrace my imperfection!"

Perfectionism has its good side as far as accomplishment is concerned maybe, but it's a killer for your self-esteem. So I just give myself a lot of breaks. I'm not perfect and I love and accept myself anyway.

I believe that you can, but with limitations. It depends on how attached you are to your beliefs, morals, reactions, opinions, etc. Do you see them as cement blocks that inhabit your mind, or as thoughts that, for whatever reasons, you have adopted and can change?

For some, it's hard to even identify their beliefs, they're so deeply ingrained. So, if you try to identify and then examine your beliefs, you can change your frame of mind.

Experience partly shapes attitude, but your REACTION TO an experience is much more important than the experience itself.

Almost instantly.

Think about something or someone you are grateful for.

Now think about something depressing or annoying.

See how quick you can have a different frame of mind?

you will in elementary terms walk in a right now line in case you will concentration on a objective or aim that shows up on the horizon. yet then you may locate out, after one has invested numerous capability and time, that when accomplishing the objective, that it fairly is not what one grew to become into searching for. So this looks like wasted capability... yet probable one has discovered some thing whilst one grew to become into walking, using all ones capability to prevail in this aim, so the investment grew to become into not for not something. on the different hand, whilst having no aim you will concentration on, then one walks merely around like a infant interior the sector, being attracted via one flower, then via yet another etc. Getting lost yet having relaxing, walking in circles and so certainly arriving the place one had began. whilst having enjoyed the walk, then not something grew to become into lost. If one desires to end some thing fed via a concept or a picture, then one will walk and seek from one objective to the subsequent till one unearths what's the main confirming ones image. even with the shown fact that it never could nicely be completely the comparable and then one realizes that having reached the objective, it does not provide the delight one had envisioned... persevering with like this all ones life? There could desire to be a extra powerful way... Bomoon Edit: Betsy, are you able to describe what precisely is 'renounce' for you? With this word there are a number of non secular pictures linked and so component of recommendations. using it with will capability as an utility to decrease ones ego, sounds sort of synthetic. does not come the % capability from the ego? does not this propose to go into right into a sparkling ego interest? Are you suggesting this? and you react if somebody makes a serious commentary, so then you definately experience not shown on your concept you try to apply on your self? how are you able to work out 'renounce' as a 'gadget' and sell it? comprehensible, because of the fact it fairly works on you. In how a ways does it paintings for you? I even have faith, like Rahmona does, that renounce occurs as a consequence and perhaps it occurs if one observes this, then one makes this new state to ones own and without understanding it one has made it as component of ones concept to attain 'enlightenment'? merely my suggestions, i don't % to offend you or decrease your valid answer. Yup. I did that twice in the past year on my own just so I wouldn't keep suffering from depression. Somehow I rationalized enough to save myself from having serious health problems in the future. I haven't had an episode in the past year.

I guess so, but don't conclude that a normal reaction to an unusual event needs to be eliminated. If it bothers you, it hasn't been solved.
