I've heard several members of congress suggest a draft, and they've all been democrats.

Should young people of draft age beware of democrats?

They want to relive their glory days of burning draft cards and going to Canada (or England in Clinton's case).

"the Democrats"- which ones in particular? Are they part of Congress or part of the general populace? Have you done a poll to see exactly how many or how few want a draft?

As long as I am the age I am and there is a war going on, with talk of a draft, I will be a little worried it will happen. Regardless of who is in power. Democrats and Republicans are basically the same these days- neither gives a toss about the American family. It's all about, "How can I keep this war going so I can make more money off it?"

The draft ended due to pressure from Congressional democrats. Check your history.

The only reason it is being given serious consideration now is because Bush has over taxed the military, weakening our defenses. It's being looked at not in political terms but rather what is in the best interests of the country. That is a concept foreign to the current group of congressional republicans.

fact is that maximum international locations have a draft, even democratic international locations. the ultimate thank you to end the draft and save it from coming returned is to stop going to conflict. human beings purely like to color Democrats as mushy on protection. although that's obtrusive that Democrats have faith that for the period of united states of america, economics and political impression shouldn't ensure who serves. every person would desire to be required to serve. that's uncomplicated for Republicans to declare they oppose it, because of the fact there are sufficient deferments and loopholes that maximum nicely off households could be in a position to steer away from it. Like Cheney, Rumsfeld and something of the fowl Hawks. they are concentrated on going to conflict as long as that's different individuals's young ones that are doing the scuffling with. What Republicans extremely oppose is a draft that calls for all adult males to take part, no longer in uncomplicated terms people who can no longer get deferments or have not got sufficient political pull to steer away from something risky. Nixon ended the draft because of the fact it have been given to the factor that maximum of infantrymen have been mandatory that it wasn't fairly extremely elementary for the sons of politically linked households to get out of it.

The truth is our forces are spread thin. People aren't likely to join the Army if they are guaranteed to end up in Iraq. The troops that are there aren't even allowed time to come home to their families stateside before having to go back. How else do you sustain a fight without troops. If the President wants this fight so bad, let him deal with a draft and the political fallout from it.

Very few democrats want a draft. VERY FEW! So few that it's practically none. Congressman Rangel is one of the very few.

It shows that the War in Iraq is not going well and that people are not volunteering to join the military in number sufficient to sustain the war effort. It also helps build negative public opinion toward the war.
