why do think S.E. Hinton wrote The Outsiders?

i really don't know all i know is that she really started writing it because one of her friends got mugged and she went home and write.

Don't know why she wrote it. You have to read another of her books, "That Was Then And This Is Now". Its brilliant

I'd say probably because she had a bad marriage with a husband who 'cheats'...wanted to have a three-some...is a cross dressing transvestite and it was a messy divorce with kids involved and she had no job, no friends, no family in the state and didn't know what to do?
