I need to keep my basement dry, I am very handy so I like to do it myself.

If you have no existing sewage/drainage plumbing now you might have to do a sump pump.

The problem I have with doing that however; is that it further degrades the slab, and without knowing your situation in detail; your water table might already be pretty high. The sump pump might run constantly; and will still need plumbing to allow the water to exit the house.

What's the age and condition of the basement structure? What is the structure? How much WET are you noting?

You will be able to get all of that sort of things at a specilised plumbing store and how to dispose of the water.
You can get clay tiles or tubink that has hole in for such a purpose.
