As in, WHAT lie did he tell? And, WHAT did he do to betray us?

Qwid_pro_quo, you're wrong. Every soldier I talk to says we are winning, and they're disgusted by moveon and people like you. Everytime demonrats find a soldier who disagrees, it turns out he lied about ever being in Iraq.

It was only labeled as a lie because they didn't like what he said.

That's really all it was.

Substantive arguments backed up with statistics and facts? From the LEFT?

Surely you jest.

Whether or not General Petraeus betrayed us or lied to us depends on who you ask. Those are opinions based on how one feels. Was the Petraeus report influenced by the Bush Administration? He said that Iraqi civilian death were down by 45% but according to various news sources 1,800 Iraqi civilians had died during the month of August. What we don't know is if more than 1,800 civilians died, and whether or not the US military just counted them as "enemy combatants" to deflate their numbers. MoveOn.org asserts that The Washington Post reported that assassinations only count if you're shot in the back of the head -- not the front.
“Experts Doubt Drop in Violence in Iraq,” by Karen DeYoung. 9/6/07,"
"Yet the General claims a reduction in violence. That’s because, according to the New York Times, the Pentagon has adopted a bizarre formula for keeping tabs on violence. For example, deaths by car bombs don’t count.

According to news reports, there have been more civilian deaths and more American soldier deaths in the past three months than in any other summer we’ve been there.

We'll hear of neighborhoods where violence has decreased. But we won't hear that those neighborhoods have been ethnically cleansed.

Most importantly, General Petraeus will not admit what everyone knows; Iraq is mired in an unwinnable religious civil war.
We may hear of a plan to withdraw a few thousand American troops.
The New York Times, “Petraeus, Seeing Gains in Iraq as Fragile, is Wary of Cuts,” by David Sanger and David Cloud, 9/7/07
The Washington Post, “Petraeus Open to Pullout of One Brigade,” by Robin Wright and Jonathan Weisman. 9/7/07.
But we won’t hear what Americans are desperate to hear: a timetable for withdrawing all our troops. General Petraeus has actually said American troops will need to stay in Iraq for as long as ten years.
The Hill, “Rep. Schakowsky: Petraeus hints at decade-long Iraq presence,” by Patrick FitzGerald. 8/10/07
Today before Congress and before the American people, General Petraeus is likely to become General Betray Us. "

So it's up to each individual American to decide whether or not they believe General Petraeus or MoveOn.org and various news sources. If even a fraction of what MoveOn.org said is true, then the General has betrayed the American people and bowed to the pressure of the Bush Administration.
Did you ask this question already having made up your mind? If so, then why did you even bother asking if you're not going to be open to all answers?

Anything that comes from moveon.org is suspect. I feel sorry for these folks. I believe they are truly deceived and we must pray for them. Gen Petraeus is one of those things that is right about America.

I see it this way, Petraeus and Bush are the only 2 reporting progress and hope

every other military source talks about the quagmire

many people think Petraeus cow-towed to Bush in his report ... weather that's the case or not it looks bad (and of course the cons want to act like no one has ever said anything bad about the war, so why should we worry)

the media's primary job is to be effective whistle-blowers ... so you tell me, is it working?

He offended the left. The moveon.org position is based on hearsay or "an unnamed source." Credibility has never been a strong suit of that particular organization.

No he did not lie. He told the truth. The only thing he did was not agree with the liberals and proved that the surge IS working and we are NOT losing in Iraq and that there is progress. So this goes against all that is loser liberals.
