you know how Mozart used to be really good, well who's that now? who's your vote for, and my technical I mean prodigious in musical theory, composition, virtuosity, etc.

All musicians who have reached an uncommon level of mastery over their instruments.

Mozart has no real parallel, I think, in modern music - the combination of groundbreaking compositional skills and musical proficiency is hard to come by.

Brian Eno as a solo artist has committed some interesting stuff to record, but is he a "technically gifted musician"? Arguably. There are instruments available now that would have boggled (or excited?) Mozart's imagination.

that's a difficult question, there's so much technology now a days that you truly don't need to be all that talented to be a musician...in fact we may never see another mozart in this life because of technological advances...reminds me of when video killed the radio star.
