Hi everyone thanks for helping me out. Well i attempted to enter the casino with an false id.
I was arrested and charged with criminal trespass. I went to court once and the judge asked me if i would like a lawyer , i was afraid of jailtime so i said yes. Now what if i show up without a lawyer? Is there any chances of jailtime?Because i called a lawyer and he said he dont know if there's going to be jailtime or not. How much would lawyer charge for such cases.

Here are some informations
-Court Location= Hammond City Court
-Judge= Jeffrey A. Harkin
-My bond= $1000
-My age= 18
-I am a first time offender , arrested for the 1st time

Thanks for reading,
Blake Z.

Call the court and see if you can get a public defender. Ask them how that works. However, it is your first offense, you won't get jail time, you will probably get put on probation. Do you know how many people this happens to every weekend. Just call and ask a lawyer for advice, they will give you advice in regards to needing a lawyer or not. If you end up with out one and the judge asks why, just tell him, you couldn't afford one and plea with what ever advice the lawyer gave you over the phone. You will have to pay a fine, and be put on probation, possibly some community service.

It's ridiculous that this even occurred. The only time the casinos asked for an ID is when you win something and try to claim the money proceeds. Or if you order any alcoholic beverage. Other than that, you don't and didn't have the obligation to show them any ID- didly squat. . Maybe, you look so young.

All they had to do in the first place was - refuse you admission to the casino. Casinos being public establishments are just that---- for public recreational and entertainment purposes and therefore can not have criminal trespasssing violations attached to their entrances. It's like saying you will be charged for trespassing should you try to seek admission in a nightclub. Las Vegas is usually laxed in this as more customers mean more revenue for them and the state.

The bail bond was stiff. It shouldn't have gone to court at all.
If there was no related crime; i.e., major crime. You don't even need a lawyer. But you can ask the judge to grant you a court -appointed lawyer which is usually pro bono i.e., free.Say you can not afford a lawyer, as you are in between jobs or still a student. Don't try to plea bargain. Your lawyer and the DA will try that tactic; That means fine, and most likely probation. But remember, any admisiion of quilt goes and stays in your record. and might destroy any future career goals.

Fake ID is a minor offense. esp this being your fitst time. And esp in a casino. That casino truly didn't have any diplomacy to even charge you or pursue the case. I suspect that there's more to this than meets the eye. Were you part of a gang who tried to rob them? So they use a lesser charge to make it stick?

If this truly is just a simple case of fake ID.then, there shouldn't be any jail time either. If they do. Get a good lawyer and sue the shi@t out of that casino for emotional distress and violation of your constitutional rights.

blake, this was a stupid thing you did. walk into the court and tell the judge you did something really stupid. you may end up with probation or community service.

walk in and do the not guilt bit, watch out man! the court will not go easy on you if there's proof that you did it.

you may be able to pull this one off without a lawyer.

Thats a tough call and depends on the judge. Some will just fine you while others may want to make an example of you. Attorneys are not cheap for any cases but seem to help lower the consequences.

I think that in any situation that you are lacking in the knowledge dept... It is a good idea to employ someone who knows the ropes. You should not be prejudiced for bringing an attorney. I would say that you could find an attorney for $3-500. Good Luck!

I believe you're ENTITLED to a court-appointed lawyer if you can't afford one. Contact the court to find out.
