Light Oils, e.g. sewing machine, hair oil, baby oil etc.
Rub some dishwash liquid into the stain, leave for 10-15 minutes, then hot wash (60-65°C) using your normal laundry detergent. If any stain remains, repeat the process. For unwashable fabrics or articles, see under.

I maybe a long way from NY Rae, but chemistry is chemistry, and this is a good site and is worth adding to "Your Favourite", for future reference.

Actually, if the oil is a natural based oil and the shirt is a natural fiber such as cotton, you can dissolve it with clear rubbing alcohol and it'll come right out, then wash the shirt in the usual way. Do NOT use Alcohol on synthetics as the alcohol will dissolve the fabric along with the oil.

Use a liquid dish soap, such as Dawn. Apply it to the stain 20 minutes before you wash it. If you have already washed and dried the shirt, however, the stain is likely "set". If so, make a paste of Dawn and baking soda. Apply it to the stain and let it sit for at least and hour. Wash as usual.

you don't. You pour oil over the rest of the shirt, and then it'll look like it was supposed to be that color. I have yet to find a remedy that takes oil out of a shirt. So unless the stain is less than 15 minutes old, in which case you can throw it in the washer with some stain treatment or something, it just isn't going to come out. Sorry!
