If men have to pay alimony, women should too.
But honestly I wish they would do away with alimony completely. It's bullshit.

Yes, it most certainly is right! In the past, when men were the breadwinners of the household and women stayed at home with the kids, it was only right that the person who made the money go on to support the children and pay alimony to an ex-wife who could not go into the workplace and command the salary needed to support anything but a babysitter!
This was one of the blessings of the Feminist movement. Since that time, many women have become "professionals" in the workplace and their earning capacity has become balanced to their male counterparts, more or less. Now, when a woman marries and she makes far more money than he does, it is up to her to support him in the way in which he was accustomed to living...give or take! It is only right that the alimony shoe fits on both feet and not just one.
Alimony wasn't "invented" simply as a means to take money away from the husband unjustly. It was put into law as a means to protect the welfare of families torn apart by divorce. Years ago many men insisted that the wife stay at home while he worked. When divorce came, it would be terribly unfair to the woman if she were left penniless. I've known women who were married for over 25 years whose husbands sought divorce simply to be with a younger woman! Where does a 50 - 55 year old woman go, who has never had to support herself, to find a job that pays an adaquate amount with no work experience? Thank goodness so much has changed and the system deals much more fairly with both parties in todays world.

Alimony is now (at least in Canada) something regarded as fair and equitable between both spouses. In some cases, wives are paying husbands, and in others, husbands paying wives. Judges look at the incomes of each, and if determined 'only fair', a woman may end up paying a husband alimony.

That's why you should not give up your career and rely on somebody else for support. Alimony is not a good idea. I do believe in child support but not alimony.

Hopefully this will teach everyone NEVER to depend on a spouse for money. I didn't support alimony then, and I don't now.
I really hope she didn't say, "You are the weakest link. G'bye" when she dumped him.
EDIT: Funny lyrics for everyone: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/weirdalyankovic/alimony.html

Alimony is total bullcrap, but hey at least the tables are turned. A little karma here and there to brighten one's day.

Its too late. Most couples enter marriage with the understanding that they could always count on their spouses for life. Hence the death do you part vow. Unless the spouse gets remarried, you should be obligated to support your ex-spouse

Equality is only equality as long as it benefits women... Sooner or later, mark my word, feminists will complain about alimoney when men start getting it as frequently as women do.
There will 'some excuse' as to why it's 'not fair' on the poor dears.
ETA: Rio - LoL .. made me chuckle!! :o)
