Yea, I agree. The lockout really killed the league. Hockey was already not as popular in America and then he decided that not having it for a season would improve the league. It alienated the sport. The Fans started to watch different sport. Hockey is not back to the early 90s where it was really popular. It is in its worst shape. Bettman does have good business plans when it comes to hockey.

In a word, yes.
As far as Gretzky, I agree that he's not an automatic choice but he'd be WAAAY better than Buttman, at least he is almost universally respected and he knows a thing or two about hockey (the same cannot be said about the current guy sitting on the throne). You can hire a few bean counters to crunch the numbers.

Gretzky does love the sport, and his intentions will always be to do what's best for the game, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Bettman's job needs to be filled by someone who not only loves the game, but has a brilliant marketing and business mind. Maybe Wayne can pull it off someday, but at least give him a few years as a GM as practice.

i do no longer understand why Scotty Bowman could no longer do the job. Why is it mandatory for the Commish to be some criminal expert? i think of it may be great to have a superb retiree take over Bettman's job as NHL Commissioner. Lity is only too modest and he knows his stuff, only such as you do, Snoop!! :-)

Oh my God yes. Replace him with someone who will stand up to the owners. I don't blame Gary for a lot of things, I blame the owners and the players. But if Gary had stood up to the owners, a lot of this **** would never have happened!
