As a mixed latin-hispanic/white male, I would say yes and no. I understand why it was created, and I do see the good and bad of it. I think jobs should be given to people by their work ethic, yes, and I've seen many jobs given to minorities who were underqualified and unprofessional but at the same time most of the high paying jobs out there are still given to white males easily (corporate jobs, etc...). I think it should be given on a basis of experience, not race
In my own personal experience, its been tough for me to get a job because a lot of foreigners are hired over me (indians, asians) as well as white kids. It depends on the place. I applied to Pac Sun, was one of two qualified hispanic males (the other guy was full blooded), and despite our work ethic, professional, and experience (him more so than me), I came back to see the lazy undeserving white teenager get the job (it was a group interview). I do believe some clothing stores are very racist (Abercrombie & Fitch, Pac Sun) when it comes to style (while hip-hop/ghetto wear stores wouldn't be so quick to hire a white person).
I do feel it is racist when it comes to schools however. Poor white kids have a harder time getting into college while blacks can get in easily even with a low grade average. I've seen it at my school these inner city types who don't do a darn thing but affirmative action seems to keep them there, while if a white person was slacking, he or she would already have been given the boot. Schools and scholarships in my opinion should NOT have affirmative action.

**Before I answer this question, I want to clarify and say that there is no racial intent behind my answer.
Look at why affirmation action was created. It was created for minorities due to the discrimination against them/us. If there wasn't a race issue in America, there would be no reason for affirmative action. I know some people won't agree with me, but it's the truth. Although, for me I rather get a job because of my experience and work ethic, rather than someone giving it to me because I am black. But, people must understand that America is made up of 65 percent of white people and the remaining 35 percent is minorities. Most of the time, whites are not discriminated against, like minorities are. Who ever disagrees with that, needs to open their eyes. Just think about it, if all people, white, black, latin, asian, native Americans were treated equally, do you think we would need things such as affirmative action. Think about that.
Note: I typically NEVER play the race card. As a black female, I want to be treated equally.

Yes. Any action or event that is predicated on ones race cannot be anything other than racist, unless you're a liberal. Then, it is alright to discriminate against white males and simply call it leveling the playing field. Why, as a white male who attended the same crappy intercity schools in Detroit as the blacks did, I somehow have an unfair advantage has eluded me for the past 52 years.

I'm white and I wouldn't necessarily say that it's racist. I'd say that affirmative action limits the capabilities of all people. I think that merit should matter and not fulfilling a quota.

Put bluntly yes.
Put more eloquently, Affirmative Action serves as a detriment to both white 'males' as well as minorities.
No person should be given preference due to their racial or cultural heritage. They should at all times be judged based upon their achievements, their individual drive (yes individual, its not societies task to guide us by the hand!).
Actions speak louder then words. If you want to do something work hard to attain it. If you wish to reach a goal sweat blood and shed tears to gain it. Nothing comes free and nothing should be given without it being deserved.

The govt or private institutions should not be allowed to ask anything about race. When they do it is discriminatory and therefore racist.

No its not affirmative action against white people. The majority in this country is still white. How can the majority vote for racism against themselves? It doesn't make sense.

It's an easy question to answer.
Racism is the preference towards a human based on the color of his skin rather than the content of his character.
Affirmative action gives preference to some people based on the color of their skin rather than the content of their character.
Conclusion: Affirmative action is racism.
