I am currently doing my UCAS application for a Social Work degree. I am finding it really hard to sell myself on the personal statement.
I can mention i have relevant experience and i am currently waiting for news on voluntary applications for work in the areas that interest me. I am also a student rep which will look good, but i am finding it really hard not to make myself sound boring and unacademic.
It just will not flow properly. Can anyone help me with this please?

All i need is a few pointers about how to mention why i want to work as a social worker and how to lay my stuff out and a way to include my interests.
I want to make the statement memorable with a strong concluding statement too.

As someone who has read hundreds of MSW application essays...here are a few things we look for.

1) If the application asks specific questions or for you to address several areas - address them fully.

2) Understand what the program you are applying to believes in. Have read the mission statement, goals, and objectives. Demonstrate that what you are looking for in a graduate program fits with what the program says it offers.

3) Demonstrate your passion for SOCIAL WORK - NOT psychotherapy, counseling, psychology, etc. etc.

4) Demonstrate your ability to critically think, reflect, analyze and conceptualize - make it clear that you are ready for graduate work

5) Demonstrate your creativity

6) Demonstrate that you have learned from your past experience and what you are hoping to do in the future.

7) Spell Check, grammar check, etc.

Those are some of the things I look for and what I know many of my colleagues are looking for.

No, what you decide on is a chainsaw to take to the documents, documents and desktops of whoever writes those STOOOOpid types. One rule that truly concerns: RING ALL THEIR BELLS. they have a catalogue of what they're searching for in there. discover that record, decode it, and write it out. Then seek by using your very own adventure and are available up with a narrative that suits each and each merchandise on the record. Then build your assertion around that. In different words, you're each thing they choose, and right here is information!

What they want to hear is what excites you about doing social work. They want to know why your heart is in it. Maybe its something that makes your blood boil and you want to do something about it. Telling you what excites others or might excite you won't help you. You must have a darn good reason if you intend to spend you life doing social work. What is it. Was it someone who inspired you and you want to be just like them. If there is nothing exciting there, are you sure about your chosen vocation.
